Dreaming of Planes, Trains and Automobiles

I am just gonna be honest - my son's bedroom needs some serious HELP! It's just depressing really. When he was a baby our theme was jungle animals...we didn't paint the walls, mainly because we didn't know how long we'd be in the apt and you have to paint them back - too much work. He had animal bedding, animal decor, red curtains, PJN initials with Polka dots and just random pictures or cards from the NICU on his wall. I mean, really his room is sad.

We are at a place now where I need to and want to transition it from being a baby room to a toddler/growing boy room and we want to do a theme of cars (not like the movie, just like car/road/tractor/ect themed) - anything to do with vehicles. His bedding is cute, but isn't car themed - it's kinda stripped with bright colors. So it's pretty easy to build off of. I don't really have any decorations for his room yet and I want to do them cheaply so I am trying to figure out how to do some art work that has to do with vehicles. I bought him some wall decals for Christmas, but until I know what I want the walls to look like (like do I do shelves?) I don't want to put them up.

So I guess you could say I am stuck in this dreaming mode. I have all these ideas of what I want to get for his room or do in his room...

I really like this mirror from Ikea. The green goes PERFECTLY with the green in his bedding. I don't know if he'd use it, I'd probably use it more for decoration...but still, I just think it's cute!

I love these canvas car art pieces from Amazon, but I don't want to pay 45 bucks for each one, you know? That's kinda nuts!

It's crazy how much things cost these days. I just dream of making his room into some place perfect for him, some place magical, some place like, well like this:
Sigh...if you know of good places to get cheap artwork, or ways to decorate without having to paint, ect...please let me know...so this dream can become reality!

I have a two year old little boy and we just moved him to his big boy room. He has clouds and small red airplanes painted on the ceiling and then his walls are tan. I found some artwork at Target for $30 that was really cute. We used navys and reds for curtains, bedskirt, and comforter. It definately all adds up and can get expensive. We found a Polo bedspread for $25 at TjMaxx! Also, check consignment stores for artwork. Meagan

What about cheapo canvas' from FF or Joannes and covering them (with a staple gun... or even hot glue) with cute fabric. There are some fun boy ones out you just have to look a bit harder than the girly prints. Joanns and hobby lobby are good places to start although there are always really great ones at quilt shops like the glass thimble in clintonville. I would think you could do quite a few for really cheap!

Have you thought about buying fabric with fun patters, maybe even cars, and using it as wall art? You could put pieces in frames or staple them over wood frames.

http://www.ohdeedoh.com/ohdeedoh/clean-up-time/quick-tip-use-magnetic-knife-holders-for-storage-138696 That is a cute idea! Also, take some really nice wrapping paper with the car theme you like and put that into picture frames. Maybe a rug that looks like a car or something for a splash of color. Look at Once Upon a Child or on Craigslist. You never know what you'll find.

By the way, that pic of the room you are dreaming of is WAY AWESOME! LOVE IT!

I am totally in the same boat! The first thing we need to do is buy a full size bed for him (hopefully this weekend!) We are going with a sports theme from Target. I am going to have to buy a little at a time. It will definitely be a work in progress! Love your theme by the way!

We decorated Logan's walls using removable wall decals! You can find tons of them on etsy, amazon, etc. It's so easy, looks great and doesn't cost much more than a can or two of paint. We are going to get them for Elise's room too. :)

Love the ideas of the fabric or wrapping paper in frames or on canvas - also the removable wall decals are super easy & not too expensive - plus if you move you can take them with you! We have some Elmo ones that we moved from our old house just fine.

I was thinking you could make the cars or hot air balloons or planes out of cardstock by tracing them from pictures that you printed out online - just cut out the different colors of the ones you print out, trace each piece onto the color of cardstock you want it, then piece them together & put those on the wall. You could laminate them if you wanted them to last longer, too. I love the picture you shared - super cute! :)
