Meme Friday #19

Hello Friends!

I am addicted to American Idol - especially now that Simon is no longer on it (he always annoyed me) and also because I like Steven Tyler! Anyways, so the other night at the end of the Milwaukee auditions they did the "the sob story" that they normally do at the end. However this story to me was just beyond moving. It was about a man who's fiancee had been in a car accident 2 months before their wedding day.  She suffered a traumatic brain injury and was in a coma for a while and what not. You can see the story here: Chris Medina Story

My question has 2 parts: Do you watch idol? If so, what do you make if their "sob stories"?

I personally at times don't like them, there are times I feel they may not even make a difference and what's the point of putting it out there for the world to see. However, there are some that (and this is my opinion) that should be shared. If they didn't share it now, it would come out, especially in the case of winning the whole thing. But that's me!

You can do Aloha Friday too! Head over to An Island Life for rules and to link up!

The Questions/Answers:

1) If you had $1,000 to donate to a charity, what would it be?

I would donate it to March of Dimes. Parker was a preemie and I just feel the closest to that charity. They do a lot for the preemie community.

2) Snow days: do you welcome them happily or are they a pain in your butt?

I welcome them because it just means I get to stay in! Parker isn't in school yet so it doesn't affect me much on that point. Though I don't like snow.

3) What talent do you wish you had and why?

Hmmm, that's a good one! I don't know. I wish I was more crafty and frugal.

4) Are you a news, politics, or celebrity gossip junkie?

I am a celebrity gossip junkie - like bad, I need rehab or something!

5) What is your favorite "cocktail"? (Are you a beer person, a kiddie cocktail junkie, or perhaps your more the "Cosmo" kind?! Anything flies...don't hafta be alcoholic)?

I generally don't do anything alcoholic. If I do it's probably going to be a Mango Margarita - yum! Otherwise I don't drink! I don't really even do virgin things...I just would rather have a soda!

Your turn! Head over to My Little Life for the rules and to participate in this 5 question friday!

I had tears when I watched that segment the other night on AI. I'm with you on the sob story mode of AI - sometimes I don't like them, but sometimes they should be shared for sure. :)

We are also addicted to American Idol!! The sob stories kinda get old after awhile. I'd rather just hear them sing however the story about the guy and girl who were engaged and then she got into a car accident and had brain damage, was REALLY sad and worth the watch!

I'm not a AI fan. I used to watch Americas home makeover but had to quit because of all the sad stories. They were just destroying me.

I used to but I haven't the past few seasons.

I think it depends. Sometimes the story is a worthwhile one that is heartwarming and other times it makes me wonder if they are just trying to get ratings. The one with the fiance who was brain damaged brought tears to my eyes. Such a great guy to stand by her!

I don't usually watch American Idol. When I do watch it, I don't start watching until they have their 12. I couldn't stand how mean they are to some of them in the auditions.

I do watch Idol and I hear you on the sob stories, as sometimes it seems very staged and planned which honestly lessens the effect, but I think at the end of the day, the execs see it as good tv, plain and simple. Gives you an extra reason to root for certain people over others.

I loved that story on American Idol last night. I was a mess of tears and so glad that sweet woman has an upstanding man in her life.

I don't mind the sob stories in all reality TV shows if they bring awareness to certain causes, but if not and if the sob stories are purely personal, i think that's exploitation! It's all for the show to gain viewership; and as for AI contestant to gain sympathy and votes.

I am an on and off fan of American Idol but I did see that story and I thought it was beautiful and a great testimony to true love. Marriage vows are so casual to so many today it was great to hear him say "I said I wanted to be her husband for better or worse and what kind of man would I be if I left now". And he isn't even married yet just engaged, what a great guy!

lol, seeing that we are on the same page here...
i think that they should show the stories AFTER they make their decisions... is that wrong? just to see if they still get voted for their VOICE... Chris was awesome though, so I am so glad we got to hear of what a great man he is

I"m with you on the sob story. I don't watch much so I don't get to see the sob ones. However sometimes a story garner web buzz and I see a link to a great story that should be shared.

Enjoy your weekend!

I have been watching American Idol for about 5 seasons now. I think they do the sob stories because people wanted to get to know the contestants more.

Stopping over from 5QF!

I cried like a baby watching that AI story of Chris Medina! I'm ok with them showing the stories but it does get annoying after a while...

Have a great Friday!

I don't watch Idol since we don't have TV anymore, but I used to be addicted!

I don't normally watch AI. The other night, I did and I was bawling. Like tears, snots and all!

And if you have to go to celeb gossip anon, I will be the one sitting next to you!

Happy friday!

Yep, I watch AI. Some of the stories I get, while others I don't. I think they just want us to relate to the contestants.

Stopped watching AI last year ebcause of things that really bothered me with the show.

I think we get it a few days behind over here, so I'll watch it if it's on when I'm watching tv, but won't make special plans to. I don't like the sob stories, everyone has their own worries and most don't use them to try to get ahead on a talent show
